Did you know Merida´s water has three problems?
High levels of sediments, bacteria, or chlorine
The water on the Mexican Peninsula comes from underground deposits that contain high levels of minerals, mainly calcium. Calcium sticks to almost any surface and builds up in pipes, washing machines, toilets, faucets, and floors.
Bacteria and chlorine are the other two problems. Water from underground contains different types of bacteria that turn the water green and slimy. The city water has high chlorine levels and other residues from the old pipes that can irritate your skin.
